How well do you remember your onboarding at the last 2 or 3 companies you joined? How it made you feel?
I asked some friends, and the answers were more or less the same: "I don't remember much of it." Or at best: "Hm, let me think... I got some company swag."
Now, what about the offboarding β the weeks before your departure?
Every time I asked this question, I got an instant reaction: "Lots of laughter and tears." "Chaotic! I returned my laptop 2 months after I left." "Everyone was so supportive." "There was no offboarding!"
I also remember the last weeks much more vividly than the first weeks.
Maybe there's a pattern here. Or maybe my sample size is too small. But either way, we shouldn't underestimate the power of last impressions.

HR AUTOMATION
The checklist you need for employee offboarding β and how to automate it
Believe it or not, a smooth offboarding process can be just as important as onboarding. It helps you end on good terms with the leaver, ensure security and compliance, ease the transition for your team, and more. Our new checklist covers all the most important tasks to remember when setting up your offboarding workflow. (Plus, our thoughts on how to approach automation.)
A group of scientists has created an Employee Engagement Checklist. The checklist includes actions to help 1) Connect what employees do to what they care about, 2) Make the work itself less stressful and more enjoyable, and 3) Create time affluence. [HBR]
The Great Resignation isn't the only Great R-word. The "Great Rudeness", "Great Reset", and "Great Reshuffling" are shaking up workplaces and employee expectations. [The Atlantic]
Another reason to tackle the hybrid employee experience head-on. A recent survey found 47% of remote workers are experiencing remote work anxiety as their coworkers return to the office. [Entrepreneur]
Working parents were hit especially hard by the pandemic. How can HR show up for this group? Examples: Monthly childcare stipend, give parents flexibility (whether a kid is sick or has a Halloween party at school), etc. Β [HR Dive]
